The Robotics/Welding Technician interfaces with all functions in the facility to support the robotic welding of LME fabrications. The Robotics/Welding Technician is responsible for the effective and safe functioning of Robotic Welding Systems.
Responsibilities
- Works closely with the Manufacturing Welding Engineer to create new programs, weld schedules and develop and implement new technology.
- Programs Robotic Welding Systems via the teach pendant and PC offline programming software.
- Touches up programs to maintain quality weld seams.
- Coordinates with UT inspectors to analyze UT flaws detected in welds deposited by Robotic Welding Systems so that the program can be adjusted if necessary.
- Troubleshoots and resolves Robotic Welding System faults and errors. Contacts robotic supplier if assistance is needed.
- Provides training to robot operator
- Performs training, maintenance or welding collateral duties as required when Robotic Welding Systems are not being worked on.
Competencies
- Education and Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Capable of attaining and maintaining LME qualifications for pulsed welding in flat and horizontal positions.
- Knowledgeable in the effects of welding variables such as Amperage, Voltage, Travel Speed, Robotics/Welding Technician Weaving Amplitude and Frequency, and bead placement.
- Knowledgeable in PLC logic.
- Demonstrates an aptitude and a willingness to learn new technology.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Products including: Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point. Ability to learn Robotic Welding Offline Programming Software.
- Planning/Organizing: Prioritizes and plans work activities; Uses time efficiently; Plans for additional resources.
- Judgment: Displays willingness to make decisions; Exhibits sound and accurate judgment; Supports and explains reasoning for decisions; Includes appropriate people in decisionmaking process; Makes timely decisions.

- Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Occasional overnight/extended travel as required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver license and passport.
