The Role
QuidelOrtho is looking for a Facilities Space Planning Intern who wants to spend their 2025 summer working towards our mission: Changing Lives, One Test at a Time. Interns will have the opportunity to gain knowledge and develop their skills all while contributing to key company projects and initiatives. Our team will help students apply their educational background and broaden their knowledge base within their role and learn more about working in the medical device/biotech industry. Interns will work with a mentor(s) on a guided and impactful project and will be able to collaborate with and be part of a supportive and dedicated team.
The Facilities Space Planning & Interior Design Intern will support the company's workplace and facility teams in optimizing space utilization, improving office layouts, and enhancing the aesthetic and functional design of corporate spaces. This role involves assisting with space planning, interior design concepts, furniture selection, and workplace strategy initiatives. The intern will gain hands-on experience in corporate real estate, space planning, workplace strategy, and interior design solutions.
This Internship is a full-time (40 hours per week) paid program for 12-weeks. Start dates are June 2nd or June 16th, 2025
Office Location: Rochester, NY (Onsite-Canal Ponds)- Students must be in the area for duration of the program. QuidelOrtho is unable to provide housing accommodations.
The Responsibilities
- Assist in updating and maintaining office layouts, floor plans, and space allocation records using AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools.
- Conduct space utilization studies and provide recommendations for efficient workplace organization.
- Assist with move management planning, seating assignments, and furniture layouts.
- Collect and analyze data related to space usage, occupancy trends, and future needs.
- Ensure compliance with corporate and industry space planning standards.
- Assist in developing interior design concepts for office spaces, meeting rooms, and collaborative areas.
- Support furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) selection to align with company branding and ergonomic needs.
- Research and propose color schemes, materials, finishes, and decorative elements to enhance workplace aesthetics.
- Work closely with architects, contractors, and project managers during renovations and office improvements.
- The intern will present a PowerPoint presentation on his/her work to a cross-functional group.
- Perform other work-related duties as assigned
The Individual
Required
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Interior Design, Facilities Management, Architecture, or a related field.
- Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student in a Bachelor's or Master's program in the Fall Semester 2024 at an accredited university or college
- Minimum GPA 3.0 or higher
- Able to start on either June 2nd or June 16th
- Ability to complete a consecutive 10-12 week internship
- Must have work authorization in the United States at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design software is preferred.
- Strong interest in corporate office design, space planning, and workplace strategy.
- Knowledge of ergonomics, sustainable design principles, and interior design trends.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teams and stakeholders across different departments.
Preferred
- Rising Junior or Senior at an accredited university or college
- Understanding of building codes, ADA compliance, and workplace regulations.
- Ability to create 3D visualizations for proposed interior designs.
The Work Environment
No strenuous physical activity, though occasional light lifting of files and related materials is required. 30% of time in meetings, working with team, or talking on the phone, 70% of the time at the desk on computer, doing analytical work.
Salary Transparency
The salary range for this position takes into account a wide range of factors including education, experience, knowledge, skills, geography, and abilities of the candidate, in addition to internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary range for current Freshman, rising Sophomore is 18.00/hour; Sophomore, rising Junior is 20/hour; Junior, rising senior is $23.00/hour to $26.00/hour; Senior, enrolled in school for fall 2024 is 25.00/hour to 28.00/hour; or currently enrolled Graduate, MBD, PhD program is 28.00/hour to 30.00/hour. At QuidelOrtho, compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
