The Role
The Associate Director, Global Market & Customer Insights will be responsible for supporting Moderna’s insights function with a focus on respiratory assets (both inline and pipeline) and enablement of global functions and market teams. This role will lead the scoping, generation, analysis, and socialization of insights to support brand strategy, long range forecasting, new product planning, pre-launch preparations, and market intelligence efforts.
The Associate Director will define key business questions in partnership with marketing, market access, and other functions, manage external research vendors, oversee insights projects, and ensure research findings are integrated across functions to inform commercial decision-making. This position requires technical expertise in research and marketing analytics, professional communications style and presence, strong consultative thinking skills, and the ability to translate insights into actionable business recommendations.
Additionally, the role will contribute to enhancing Moderna’s research capabilities, optimizing compliance and pharmacovigilance and knowledge sharing processes, and piloting new methodologies to ensure Moderna’s insights function remains at the forefront of industry innovation.
Here’s What You’ll Do
- Vendor & Project Management:
- Manage external research partners, ensuring the effective scoping & execution of insights projects from study design through reporting.
- Provide guidance and ensure research deliverables align with business needs and inform commercial & development decisions
- Lead pharmacovigilance and compliance education and maintain relevant databases
- Insights Strategy & Execution:
- Maintain ongoing relationships with assigned stakeholders.
- Identify key business gaps or questions, oversee research execution, and track market performance.
- Deliver regular updates to leadership and develop a forward-looking insights agenda.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Engage with stakeholders across Commercial, Medical, and Corporate functions to align on key research priorities and translate insights into meaningful business strategies.
- Market & Competitive Intelligence Integration:
- Work closely with Competitive Intelligence, Analytics, New Product Planning, to monitor and report on marketplace dynamics, fostering a competitive mindset across the organization.
- Brand & Commercial Planning Support:
- Provide insights to support brand strategy, market assessments, and commercial decision-making at both global and local levels.
- Capability Development & Innovation:
- Partner with Decision Sciences, Medical Excellence, and Digital teams to enhance market research methodologies and analytics capabilities.
- Explore emerging AI and digital analytics techniques to drive innovation in insights generation.
- Adaptability & Continuous Improvement:
- Proactively seek and share knowledge about emerging insights approaches to maintain Moderna’s competitive advantage.
Here’s What You’ll Need (Minimum Qualifications)
- 8+ years of experience in a pharmaceutical company, market research vendor, or consulting firm doing primary market research in support of the pharma/biotech industry
- Prior experience in an insights role with a biopharma company is a must (min 3 years)
- Familiarity with commercial strategy and brand planning tools such as market maps, customer journey analysis, segmentation, positioning, and messaging research
- Strong communications skills and experience collaborating with cross-functional teams (Pricing & Market Access, HEOR, Marketing, etc.)
- Highly motivated, proactive, and adaptable in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
- Team-oriented mindset with a commitment to collaboration and impact
Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)
- Prior experience in competitive intelligence is desirable but not required
- Vaccines experience is desirable but not required
- Expertise in specific areas of market research (e.g. segmentation, KPIs and ATUs, consumer behavior)
- Interest in AI and digital analytics tools for insights generation
