The Role
Moderna is seeking a Bioinformatics Engineer to support Research and Early Development efforts by developing, improving, and maintaining bioinformatics pipelines. In this role, you will collaborate with computational scientists, bioinformaticians, statisticians, engineers, and laboratory scientists to build, improve, and deploy the next generation of bioinformatics workflows, focusing on performance, scalability, and cost optimization in cloud-based environments.

Here’s What You’ll Do
- Develop, implement, and optimize bioinformatics workflows, algorithms, and computational tools
- Refactor and optimize Python-based bioinformatics pipelines for automation and scalability.
- Collaborate with computational and scientific teams across research and bioinformatics engineering to support therapeutic programs
- Ensure code quality through version control (Git/GitFlow), unit testing, and CI/CD best practices
- Deliver high quality documentation on code architecture, patterns, and code usage tutorials.
- Prepare and deliver presentations to stakeholders and collaborators.
Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Basic Qualifications)
- M.S. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Systems Biology with direct experience in bioinformatics pipeline development
- Demonstrated programming skills in Python, shell scripting, and/or R
- Experience in bioinformatics workflow frameworks (e.g. NextFlow DSL2), version control systems (e.g. Git), AWS and Docker
Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)
- Working knowledge of developing and running in cloud computing environments (AWS)
- Use of JIRA for issue tracking and integration with Microsoft Teams for tracking support ticket resolution
- Experience in working with other engineers on shared codebase using gitflow
- Experience with unit testing
- Self-motivated and able to drive a project to completion
- Flexibility to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
