Under guidance from engineers, runs tests and diagnostics on preliminary/prototype software programs. Tests prototypes using standard lab equipment/processes. Maintains records of code tests and changes, and documents test results. Supports engineers with documentation creation and validation.
This is a hybrid role which requires you to work on-site in our Lincolnshire, IL office 3-days a week.
Responsibilities:
- Follows established processes to create and test products, software and applications.
- Works from written and verbal descriptions, or defined plans to perform testing, checkout and troubleshooting functions.
- Performs operational test and fault isolation on software programs.
- Determines methods or actions to remedy malfunctions.
- Assists in the design, test and check-out of test equipment.
- Performs audits and tests of software products in accordance with test plans and procedures. Debugs and characterizes defects, provides detailed configuration and descriptions for passing and failing tests for product evaluation reports. Identifies actual or potential problems in test plans or company products.
- Records results of tests and maintains lab documentation as required.
- Assists product development engineers in the diagnosis and replication of product failures. Analyzes test results and makes recommendations.
- Reviews changes or upgrades to existing designs and ensures testing is completed for each design revision.
- Reviews, validates and updates engineering documentation.
- Works with latest technologies and new approaches.
- Works under moderate supervision.
- Supports sustaining and CQC software updates and releases with Software Quality activities.
- Under software engineer direction will handle software release process.
- May provide some administrative support as needed.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent vocational qualification/ experience and less than 1 year of experience. May be considered an apprentice or a trainee.
- Minimum 1 year of related work experience.
- Experience with one or more programming languages.
- Ex perience with software bug tracking tools, such as JIRA.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience testing on software and hardware.
- Experience with testing native mobile applications and supporting web services is a plus.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues when assembling concise, complete and actionable defect reports.
- Ability to use MS-Word, MS-Excel and other MS office applications.
- Experienced with testing IoT Devices, Android and iOS applications for delivery to Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
- Familiar with different communication protocols, including BT Classic, BTLE, USB and 802.11.
- Experience supporting sustaining and CQC software updates and releases with Software Quality activities.
- Knowledge of applicable software programming and applications.
- Associate's degree preferred in Computer Science or other relevant concentration.

Salary: USD 43200.00 - USD 64800.00 Yearly
Salary offered will vary depending on your location, job-related skills, knowledge, and experience.
Additionally, all Zebra roles are eligible for cash incentive programs. For example, sales roles have additional opportunity to earn substantial variable compensation tied to quota achievement.
