The Role

Moderna’s Research Automation department is seeking a talented and motivated Co-op to join our team in supporting various biological assays that support Research and Early Development. The Co-op will support the Research Automation team through automated in vitro screening efforts using liquid handlers and will gain practical experience in a dynamic research environment. The role involves assisting in the preparation, execution, and analysis of various laboratory experiments, supporting the research team in achieving project milestones. Mentoring, opportunities to enhance critical thinking, attention to detail and training on Hamilton liquid handler automation will be provided to accomplish day-to-day activities. Applicants should be great team members, excellent communicators, with solid organizational skills. Our ideal candidate will be highly motivated and adaptable with a strong work ethic.

Here’s What You’ll Do.

  • Help develop, optimize, and validate automated in vitro assays and tissue processing to evaluate various mRNA constructs using different types of automation equipment.
  • Perform protein and RNA extraction experiments from animal tissue samples.
  • Independently set up and conduct laboratory experiments using automated liquid handlers.
  • Collect, analyze, interpret and present data at group meetings.
  • Prepare samples, reagents and materials required for daily testing of samples.
  • Comply with all safety and procedural guidelines within the lab.

Here’s What You’ll Need (Basic Qualifications)

  • Currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate program with a focus on Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or another related scientific field.
  • Fundamental knowledge and experience with wet lab techniques such as tissue processing, protein/RNA extraction and quantification preferred.
  • Candidate will embrace our core values. You will be curious in exploring new options for assay development and data presentation, bold in proposing creative experimental designs and ideas. You will work collaboratively with multifunctional teams and will be relentless in pursuing successful outcomes.
  • Prior laboratory experience is preferred.
  • Strong fundamental scientific skills for the evaluation of experimental data.
  • Legal authorization to work in the US.
  • Additional duties as may be assigned from time to time.

  • Prior experience with wet lab techniques such as working with animal tissues, protein and RNA extraction from animal tissues and quantification assays preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
