Lead UX Designer, Marketplace
Are you hands-on and creative systems thinker looking to solve highly complex problems in the healthcare space? athenahealth is currently seeking a Lead UX Designer to own the end-to-end design process to improve the user experience of athenahealth’s customer-facing Marketplace. The Marketplace is home to over 500 partners that offer innovative solutions that fully integrate with the athenaOne platform to help our customers improve their clinical or financial outcomes.
In this role, you’ll be a part of the Ecosystem team, which powers our interoperability offerings by enabling outside integration and data exchange with athenaOne, making it one of the most open and seamlessly integrated platforms in healthcare.
What You’ll Do
- Own the full design lifecycle for the Marketplace, from understanding core user and business challenges to delivering polished, pixel-perfect UI.
- Collaborating cross-functionally across UX, product, engineering, and partnership teams to create impactful designs that solve complex problems.
- Create detailed, high-fidelity UI and UX specifications to effectively communicate design requirements to engineers and stakeholders.
- Proactively drive user research and market research activities to uncover user needs and industry trends.
- Act as a key collaborator alongside the product manager and architect to develop a strategic vision of where we should go and why, and how we will know when we arrive.
What You’ll Bring
- 6+ years’ work experience creating and building world-class experiences for digital products. Experience designing consumer retail, or e-Commerce platforms a plus.
- Understanding of how a digital product feeds into a overall Brand strategy
- Exceptional user research skills, the ability to identify strategic research opportunities and plan, conduct, and synthesize research independently.
- An excellent portfolio showcasing UI/UX and visual design work with a strong design sensibility and articulate storytelling. Evidence of exceptional design ability is a must.
- Highly motivated to sink your teeth into an immense, complex, but purposeful space and willing to stick it out to see things through.
- Ability to think creatively and deliver value under tough constraints.
- Critical thinking and creative ability to define shippable iterations that provide incremental value on the way to achieving a bigger vision.
- Go getter with a humble attitude that is willing to do what is needed for project success.
- Must be proficient and highly skilled in Figma and other design tools. Experience with Jira a plus.
- Understanding of front-end web technologies such as HTML/CSS/JavaScript/Typescript and general understanding of back-end technologies that are required to build out experiences.
- Experience in agile SDLC and proven experience with keeping multiple threads moving forward at the same time required.
- Willingness and ability to work across time zones, as some team members are distributed across the US and in India
