Job Summary And Qualifications
The Pediatric and Congenital Heart Professional Development Specialist is responsible for the development of educational materials and activities designed to improve professional practice and the provision of quality patient care. This role will have direct responsibility for the clinical education, orientation and training coordination of the HCA Congenital Heart Programs. Will help lead the development of strategies and tools to advance the Congenital Heart nursing education. This position is responsible for assessment of orientation and training program needs, development, and execution of program objectives, and evaluation and ongoing improvement needs. This position will facilitate work across workgroups, interacting with various stakeholders to ensure all course material is developed and implemented using HCA’s Clinical Education Service Line education standards.
What you will do in this role includes:
Growth:
- Provide clinical education for the Congenital Heart service line by developing educational goals, objectives, coordinating, delivering and evaluating the program education activities
- Develop educational and training reflecting evidence-based practice for patient safety and quality improvement strategies and initiatives in collaboration with the Congenital Heart Services Director.
- Participates in strategic planning and business development within area(s) of responsibility to support new service offerings, technology advances and other opportunities to drive differentiation and support the growth agenda through the development of educational programs.
- Represents the organization positively within the community; participates in company supported community/patient events and in-services.
- Stays abreast of external factors and opportunities impacting healthcare; to include political, legislative and regulatory changes, emerging technologies, and advancements in healthcare delivery.
- Understands the competitive landscape. Supports the organization to respond to these changing healthcare dynamics and market environments through clinical education.
- Integrates best available evidence into practice into HCA’s clinical education service line
Finance:
- Operates within the annual budget
Professional Practice:
- Collaborates with the clinical education team to systematically evaluate HCA’s education plan to determine achievement of expected outcomes and resource allocation.
- Collaborates with the division VPs, Clinical Education supporting their division to improve the nursing practice of the organization through clinical education and competency management
- Consistently seeks improvement opportunities to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the competency management program through the review of evidence for best practices in competency management
Additional Responsibilities:
- Problem solves independently and engages stakeholders appropriately
- Ability to travel approximately 50% of the time
- Remains flexible and available to provide assistance to HCA Command Center for any/all disaster or emergency situations
What qualifications you will need: - Master's degree In Nursing or Education; if the graduate degree is not in nursing, the undergraduate degree must be in nursing – Required
- 3+ years in pediatric congenital heart clinical role including at least 2 years of education experience; Strong communication skills, and ability to work independently and as a member of a high performing team – Required
- Education professional with the ability to develop course content, provide course delivery, conduct learner evaluation and utilize adult learning principles – Required
- Previous experience with pediatric congenital heart clinical care performance improvement and change management initiatives – Preferred
- Or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
- Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the state(s) in which he or she practices, in accordance with law and regulation - Required
- Certified Nurse Educator or Nursing Professional Development certification within one year of hire - Preferred
