Job Summary:
The Health and Safety Professional is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive health, safety, and environmental (HSE) programs to ensure the well-being of employees, protect company assets, and promote a culture of safety for Bureau Veritas of North America (BVNA) clients. This role involves identifying, assessing, and mitigating potential risks and hazards, as well as ensuring compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct workplace inspections, risk assessments, and audits to identify potential health, safety, and environmental hazards, and recommend appropriate control measures.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve HSE policies, procedures, and training programs to educate and engage employees on safe work practices for BVNA clients.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determine root causes, and recommend corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence in BVNA client places of work.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations, standards, and industry best practices when requested.
- Collaborate with BVNA client HSE management to aid in establishing and tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) for HSE programs and audit the progress towards achieving organizational safety goals.
- Assist clients in maintaining comprehensive records and documentation related to HSE programs, including incident reports, training records, and regulatory compliance.
- Provide technical guidance, instruction and support to client employees on a wide range of HSE-related matters, and act as a subject matter expert as requested by BVNA clients.
- Actively participate in safety committees and lead cross-functional teams to address complex HSE issues.
- Stay informed of changes in HSE regulations, industry trends, and best practices, and proactively implement necessary updates to the organization's programs.
- Promote a positive safety culture by fostering employee engagement, recognition, and continuous improvement in HSE performance.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or equivalent certification preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in a health, safety, and environmental management role, preferably in a similar industry.
- Comprehensive knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations, standards, and best practices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and mitigate complex HSE risks.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with employees at all levels.
- Strong writing skills to support the development of client reports and audits, providing detailed and concise findings from site inspections.
- Proficient in using safety-related software, data analysis tools, and incident management systems.
- Ability to work independently, lead cross-functional teams, and drive continuous improvement in HSE performance.
- Demonstrated commitment to professional development and staying current with industry trends and regulations.
