Building Code Inspector and QC Site Representative (Part-Time As Needed)
Position Summary and Objectives:
This part-time, as-needed role is responsible for on-site building code inspection and quality control oversight for residential renovation projects in the Louisville, KY metropolitan area and surrounding regions. The primary objectives are to ensure construction conforms to the scope of work, applicable building codes and guidelines, and meets the client's quality standards.
Essential Functions:
- Visit job sites, typically 16-24 hours per week, to perform the following key tasks:
- Review, observe, and verify that construction adheres to the scope of work
- Observe and confirm construction conforms to relevant building, mechanical, and electrical codes
- Verify completion of punch lists and remediation of defective or unsuitable work
- Document findings in detailed field reports
- Issue Certificates of Occupancy and/or Completion as appropriate
- Collaborate with the client team to address any issues or concerns
Qualifications and Education:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the construction industry, with at least 3 years in a construction administration, superintendent, or project management role
- Prior experience as a residential building inspector, with required Residential ICC Certifications
- Desirable: Bachelor's degree in construction, engineering, architecture, or a related field
- Excellent working knowledge of residential building codes and construction best practices
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and project management skills
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
- Approximately 90-100% travel to job sites, unless local to the project
- Based out of a construction job site trailer or the client's office
- On-site observation, which may involve climbing stairs, accessing roofs, mechanical rooms, etc.
- Projects are subject to OSHA regulations and safety protocols
